African American camerawoman that had peanuts thrown at her while being taunted “this is how we feed animals” at the RNC along with the Republican Puerto Rican speaker being yelled over with “USA…USA” and booed when she came to the stage, Even after a man asked the crowd to show her respect.
I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around how someone deals with such racist acts and believe nonviolence works; I just don’t get it. How can you appeal to someone who is so blinded by ignorance they will do anything to protect it? How do you rise up and demand change when the ones in charge will sick police on you and/or ignore everything you have to say and make it look like you’re the problem? Now i know poc should not try to get supremacists to change, we should define our own destiny, but how exactly can we do that when it seems like we’re in a place where we aren’t even in charge of our own destiny?
I tell people ALL the time, “nothing has changed since the civil rights era; America is just more modern, and public racism just isn’t as “acceptable” as it was back then. There are just as many racists/white supremacists today; most just know it’s not popular to outwardly voice it, and half of the racists are parading around as white people that hate racism and watch msnbc”
There were cool white people in the 60’s that fought with us and there are cool white people now, but don’t try to tell me that there are less racists now than there were in the past. Just look at all the millions of racist things said online that most would never hear in real life, not to mention all of the other things poc deal with on a daily basis.
I have never heard of major change in any countries system through speaking out. This is America, the most popular “news” network is Fox News and you think the people watching and soaking that into their minds give af about what you have to say? Even most of the ones that think they do care still hit you with their racism, casual racism, and white privilege.
America is no different than these other countries they love to show on the news killing their own citizens because they demand change. America is just more watered down.
Unity and the education of our people is definitely the first step, but I feel like no matter how many African American minds you open and get to unite, this country will still be ran on white supremacy because that’s what it was built off of and has always ran on. I know some things might change, but systematic oppression and racism will not. As you can see from what is happening with everyone they view as “illegal” immigrants, they will do whatever it takes to keep this country the way it is.
You can’t ask for change; you have to demand it. Just like Malcolm X said “by any means necessary.”
The sooner people realize that we can focus on an actual revolution.
